QuoteWerks Development Path – A Speculative View, Addendum

🔄 A Further Glimpse into the Future?

Since publishing the original article, Aspire Technologies – the developers behind QuoteWerks – have released a new version of QuoteWerks Web that introduces features not currently available in the Desktop version. Notably:

  • API with AI Assistant: with features to call external web services and also QuoteWerks AI, neither of which are available with the Desktop API – at least not easily.
  • Rich Text Support: Enhanced formatting capabilities for quote descriptions and notes.
  • Updated Layout Designer: A more modern, flexible interface for designing output layouts, surpassing the capabilities of the legacy Desktop designer.

These additions are more than just incremental improvements, they signal a potential strategic shift. When the Web version begins to offer exclusive features, it raises the question: is the Desktop version being quietly positioned for planned obsolescence?

Combined with the increasing use of WebView2 to embed web-based components into the Desktop app, it’s reasonable to speculate that Aspire Technologies may be laying the groundwork for a full transition to QuoteWerks Web in the future.

While the Desktop version remains fully functional and widely used, these developments suggest that the Web platform is not just catching up, it’s beginning to lead.

As a long-time QuoteWerks Partner, I find this evolution both exciting and full of opportunity. The potential for a more unified, browser-based experience opens doors for improved integration, accessibility, and user experience. I look forward to seeing how we, as a community, can continue to shape and support this journey.
